I Agree™ Policy

Googles.com is a safe neighborhood (in cyberspace) where children can learn and have fun. We feature original Googles music, videos, and games that integrate learning about a variety of science and environmental topics. Periodically a child is presented information on a new topic, accompanied by related experiments and projects they can do with family or friends; they can share their productions with other Goo kids. Goopoints are awarded for accomplishments and may be redeemed for prizes.

To keep everyone safe, we collect the minimum amount of information required to enable your child to play, visit and learn safely while on-line. We do not disclose any private information to third parties.

What information is collected?

Our stated objective is to create an on-line experience to keep children completely safe from predators. Therefore, the only information we collect directly from children is commonly known as ‘non-personally identifiable’ information. This could include preferences that customize the Googles theme, favorites, (character, TV show, movie, food, etc.), and/or a nickname for messaging. This information is collected to customize the children’s participation in the activities of the site without divulging any important details. Googles.com does not prorate a child’s participation in these activities based on the disclosure of more information.

You, the grown-up, will provide all other information regarding the children. This information is also restricted to a minimum and is related to your personal needs on Googles, com. It consists of the name, Googles mailbox user id and password, age, gender, relationship of a child to the account guardian, school (where applicable), and current grade (where applicable), and could include other optional categories.

Additional parental information will be collected, from you, to assist in managing a child’s experience as well as the monthly fee plus any possible purchase of products and services from the site. This information includes name, address, telephone number, user id and password, e-mail address, and credit card number.

Use of Information

Googles.com does not disclose information provided by a child or any personally identifiable information (with regard to the children) provided by the parents. However, every effort is made to protect a child when she/he communicates outside of the Googles.com community. As an example: our messaging system will show the child’s mailboxid @ googles.com as the ‘from address’ of sent e-mails.

In the event that all, or substantially all, of the assets relating to Googles.com are transferred or sold to another entity, personally identifiable information submitted to us may be transferred to the acquiring entity. We may also disclose personally identifiable information to third parties in order to comply with the law or requests by law enforcement agencies, to enforce our Terms and Conditions or to protect the rights, property or safety of Googles.com, Googles.com users, and others.

Messaging

To insure safety, Googles.com has a completely ‘closed messaging’ system for the Goo kids. The child’s mailboxid@googles.com will appear in the ‘from’ box of any sent message. If you would like your child to send messages to someone outside of Googles.com (e.g., a new friend from camp, or Grandma), you can include them on the white list. When mail is sent from your child to that person, he/she will receive a notification in their normal e-mail account that they have Goomail waiting. They simply log into their Googles mailbox to receive the message.

Googles.com also provides a chat capability for two children (called “Fliitz”). Both children in the messaging group must be approved in the white list established by the grown-up account manager(s). Message groups are randomly monitored. A grown-up account manager can monitor a message group. You are encouraged to contact the Googles service center to report inappropriate messaging, or can report them online directly.

Posting Projects

In the course of playing on Googles.com, children may be given the opportunity to submit pictures of their completed projects for posting on a bulletin board. Googles.com will not collect personally identifiable information for the purpose of posting these pictures. No personally identifiable information will be displayed or stored with these postings. Care should be taken to insure that personally identifiable information is not visible on the posted pictures.

Electronic Newsletter Subscription

Googles.com will offer children the opportunity to subscribe to and receive a Goo Newsletter. We collect no additional information for this purpose. The newsletter is transmitted to the child’s Goo mailbox. Parents will receive notification via a Goo mail message that the child has received the newsletter. The parent’s will also have the opportunity to subscribe to a newsletter targeted to the parents. This newsletter will be sent to the parent’s e-mail address.

Rewards

Children will have the opportunity to earn “Goo Points” for solving puzzles, completing games, conducting experiments, etc. These points can be redeemed for rewards of various types. All the rewards will be selectable on-line and will be delivered, if necessary, to the Goo Mail box. No personally identifiable information will be collected or stored for this purpose.

Cookies and log-ins

Cookies are information files that a typical browser places on the hard drive of your computer when you visit a website. Third party advertising is not permitted on Googles.com.

Googles.com may collect information related to the usage of our site for the purpose of improvement of Googles.com operation and/or content. This usage information may be linked to personal data provided by the parents to better customize the Googles.com experience as it relates to the interests of a child.

Parental Access

All personally identifiable information regarding a child (sub-account) is provided and edited by the parent (account holder). At account set-up, the parent’s identity is validated using the credit card information and parent’s e-mail address. Presentation of valid credit card information and acceptance of the I Agree policy are considered adequate proof that the account holder is the parent or legal guardian of the sub-accounts under his or her control. Upon successful registration, the parent is given a user i.d. and password. Using these, the parent can review, edit, and/or remove any information regarding a child or a child’s privileges under his or her control.

Security

Googles.com has taken steps to ensure that personally identifiable information is secure, including limiting the number of people who have physical access to our database servers; firewall protection to prevent hackers, predators, viruses, and inappropriate material from infecting Googles.com; white lists to control e-mail communication; and user ids and passwords to control access.

Googles.com provides internal “bumper pages” that inform children that they have linked to another site and instructs them not to give out information online before checking with their parents. These other websites are governed by their own privacy policies, which may be substantially different than ours.

Customer Service

In addition to being able to call our customer service department, you may e-mail your question to us. Other than a parental e-mail address, we do not request that you submit any personal information online for customer service inquiries. We may however ask for additional information to better help us respond to customer service questions. We use your parental e-mail address to communicate directly with you about technology-related questions, and provide answers that you and your child may find helpful. We do not sell, transfer or share your e-mail address with third parties, with the exception that the information may be transferred, disclosed and shared with our third party agent who uses information solely to handle and manage customer service, but cannot use it for other purposes and has agreed to maintain the confidentiality of such information. Once our third party agent has had a chance to provide e-mail responses to customer service e-mail questions, the personal information will be deleted from their system.
